Jamgeum-gul (잠금굴): The Rule of Five
The Offense: Diving in groups of fewer than five.
The Context: In the treacherous waters of Jeju, diving alone or in too small a group is a liability. If a diver suffers from nitrogen narcosis, blackouts, or equipment failure, her survival depends entirely on the immediate intervention of her peers.
The Artifact: A representation of collective isolation. Jamgeum-gul was a temporary ban on diving, effectively cutting off an individual’s livelihood. By materializing this penalty, the project visualizes the gravity of spatial policing and the forced economic paralysis of the non-compliant body.
