The Offense: Social transgressions, theft of harvest, or subversion of community hierarchy.
The Context: In a close-knit, isolated village, reputation is a currency. To lose face is to lose one's position within the safety net of the collective.
The Artifact: Meodal-beol was a public shaming ritual. A transgressing diver's faults were loudly announced to the entire village, transforming her private error into a public spectacle. The design representing Meodal-beol explores the auditory and psychological dimensions of exposure, highlighting how peer surveillance acts as an invisible panopticon.
